A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. Some are necessary for a site to work at all. Others are optional and require your permission before they can be set. This page explains which cookies hoofandhonest.com uses and how you can control them.
Strictly necessary cookies
These are required for the website to function and cannot be switched off. They do not require consent under Art. 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive because the site cannot deliver the service you requested without them.
- Session and security cookies. Set by WordPress and by our security plugin to maintain your session, protect forms against cross-site request forgery, and identify abusive traffic.
- Consent record. If a cookie banner is in use, one cookie stores the choices you made so that you are not asked on every page.
- Comment cookies. If you leave a comment and tick the box to be remembered, WordPress stores your name, email and website so you do not have to retype them. These last up to one year and are set only at your request.
- Login cookies. Set only for registered users signing into the site administration.
Third-party cookies from embedded content
Where an article embeds a video from YouTube, that embed can set cookies on your device once it loads. These are placed by Google, not by us, and they may be used to build a profile of your interests across sites. We do not control them and cannot read them.
If you would rather not receive them, do not interact with embedded players, or use your browser settings to block third-party cookies. You can also watch our videos directly on the Hoof & Honest channel, where Google’s own terms and privacy policy apply.
Analytics and advertising
We do not run third-party advertising networks on this site and we do not permit advertisers to place tracking cookies through it. Where any analytics measurement is used, it is only activated after you have given consent, and you can withdraw that consent at any time.
How to control cookies
Every major browser lets you see which cookies are stored, delete them individually or in bulk, and refuse new ones. The relevant settings are usually under Privacy, Security or Site Settings. Blocking all cookies will break parts of most websites, including the comment and login functions here.
If you gave consent to optional cookies and want to change your mind, clear the cookies for this domain in your browser and the choice will be requested again on your next visit.
